The Original Grate Grabber should only be used with grill grates intended for food preparation. The Grate Grabber is also designed to grasp lump and briquette charcoal as well as small logs and kindling used with small fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, campfires and wood stoves.
Do not use the Grabber to move large pieces of wood, bricks or other grill items too large or heavy to lift safely.
It is not advised to use the Grabber to handle food, you are welcome to do so but it is designed for grill grates, charcoal and wood. However, foods wrapped in foil such as potatoes, garlic or other vegetables can easily be cooked directly on hot coals Using the Grate Grabbers.

HISTORY:
I made the original Grate Grabbers in 2004 because my wife didn't like starting the grill and always depended on me to do it for her. She complained that the whole process was dirty and her wrists were too weak to lift grates using our pliers. I designed this multipurpose tool that could be use with both hands for better control to spread hot coals as well as add wood to the smoker without getting her hands near the heat. The tool worked so perfectly over the years that I decided to patent and manufacture the Original Grate Grabber for everyone to enjoy. While we have manufactured and sold many grill tools over the years, we are still enjoying our prototype, circa 2004 with metal handles. Although no loner pristine, our original Grabbers are still 100% structurally sound and has outlasted three (3) pretty pricey charcoal grills to date. The current grill (#3) is already showing signs of degradation while the good old Grate Grabbers hang on the hook in the garage, patiently waiting the next grill challenge. And don't even get me started on how many charcoal chimney starters these grabbers have out lasted. Seems like we live in a disposable world these days and nothing is made to last.
The Original Grate Grabber is certainly a heavy duty safety tool. Take comfort knowing the steel used to make your tool was manufactured right here in the good old USA. We also use aircraft grade nuts and bolts to hold it together. Even the leather straps were purchased locally and the Cherry wood handles are custom made by me. So many of the things we purchase today are made overseas and are of questionable quality. That is not the case with the Original Grate Grabber. I stand behind my workmanship. Once you use the Original Grate Grabber and appreciate it's many uses, you will never want to build another fire without it.
